Artwork Description
Crosstown Traffic Lights is a lenticular art print by portrait photographer Gered Mankowitz, featuring three iconic black and white art prints of Jimi Hendrix, taken from the 1967 London studio shoot that produced the cover image for The Ultimate Experience. Also featured in the National Art Gallery Photographic collection, the image from that album appears here in the amber frame.
Mounted on a lightbox which shines through the UV printed premium lenses, creating a soft, focal point glow, Mankowitz uses the lenticular effect to cut between the three images, each of which are tint coloured in red, amber, and green traffic light colours, and feature their original photographic film borders and numbers.
The striking and colourful monochrome art tints coupled with one of the most famous music photographs ever taken calls to mind the celebrity focused pop art of creators like Andy Warhol, and themes beautifully into the period of time captured in this unique original art print and ambient lighting feature.
As with all the lenticular art prints and portraits available to buy from our Kent art gallery on the outskirts of London, each original print copy of Crosstown Traffic Lights is registered for authenticity and ownership with the Tagsmart system in our online shop.
